Mark Webber got off to a flying start on Day Two at Jerez, setting the early pace as the drivers made good use of the drying track.
The action began at 9am local time and although it wasn't raining at the time, the track was still slightly damp in some areas from overnight showers.
It wasn't long before the drivers ventured out for their installation laps with Nico Hulkenberg returning to the track shortly after to start his first run of the day.
But it wasn't to be.
The Williams rookie, who was quickest in the wet on Wednesday, had not even completed a single before he brought out the first red flags of the day.
Hulkenberg lost control at the Dry Sack corner and beached his FW32 in the gravel. That put a temporary halt to Williams' plans of carrying out "aero and weight distribution tests and cooling runs."
The session was halted for 18 minutes during which a few drops of rain fell on the track. That, though, didn't stop the drivers, who began to put in the laps as the soon as the session was green-lighted.
Mark Webber took the top of the timesheets with a 1:26.341 in his Red Bull RB6 while Sebastien Buemi was second for Toro Rosso ahead of Kamui Kobayashi and Fernando Alonso.
Michael Schumacher, Jenson Button and Timo Glock were the only other drivers to set times in the first hour, which ended, as it did on Wednesday, with the rain coming down.
